Best Times to Move
When moving, there are a few helpful moving tips that people might not think to tell you. A professional mover is a great source for this information. In fact, if you are thinking about hiring a mover and an agent won't take the time to give you general tips about moving, you should consider finding another mover.
Summer is the busiest time of year for professional movers, so you have to schedule your move further ahead in advance, and you may have movers who are distracted or exhausted from the work overload.
Within any month, the beginning and end are inevitably much busier for movers than the middle. Apartment moves are almost invariably scheduled around the first of the month, so this is a bad time to move a household if you don't absolutely have to. If you're moving an apartment, ask the landlord if you can change your lease to go from the fifteenth instead of the first so that you will have more flexibility in finding a mover.
When choosing a time of day to move, you must consider the traffic and the neighbors. Some professional movers will be willing to move you during non-business hours, which may make it possible to avoid the worst traffic problems, especially in a big city. However, if you're moving into an apartment, you don't want to be making a lot of noise in the middle of the night. You may want to have the movers come and pack your belongings one late afternoon and evening, and then make the drive to move them in the early morning; be in place to unload everything at your new place once everyone is up and moving during the day.
